Vancouver Parks & Flowers - Queen Elizabeth Garden Return to Virtual Vancouver Main Page Add A Vancouver Related Listing Virtual Vancouver Advertising
Known as Little Mountain by the early Vancouverites, it is now an extinct volcano site. The soil is fertile enough to allow a variety of exotic and delicate flowers. The Queen Elizabeth Park was actually named in honor of Queen Elizabeth and King George when they visited Vancouver in 1951.
If you walk up the park's highest point, you will find the Bloedal Floral Conservatory. Beneath the triodetic dome made with nearly 1500 triangular Plexiglas bubbles, enjoy a brief and wonderful botanical garden. It is filled with 500 species of plants including orchids, lilies, palm trees and even a field of prickly cacti. There are also exotic birds flying overhead while orange and red craps glimmer in man-made streams. Take a break and walk outside towards the observation deck for a sweeping view of the North Shore mountains. For a romantic night out, why not enjoy dinner at the Seasons in the Park Restaurant? It is perched close to the conservatory and offers an intimate atmosphere filled with thermosphere of the garden conservatory. The restaurants even allows you to bask in the warmth of the sun if you're lunching there or make a night of it as the light of the sunset spread through the dining room. There are recreational facilities available near Kersland Drive and Little Mountain. You will find around 20 public tennis courts and also a putt golf course as well as Vancouver's only frisbee gold course, and last but not least a lawn-bowling greens.
