Vancouver Nitobe Gardens General InformationReturn to Virtual Vancouver Main Page Add A Vancouver Related Listing Virtual Vancouver Advertising
The garden is to commemorate the memory of Dr. Inazo Nitobe (b. 1861 d. 1933) who was a famous and highly respected teacher in Canada. Mori himself supervised the garden development for 18 months, overseeing the meticulous work of symbolic plant and rock arrangements. Each rocks in the garden was carefully selected by the professor from around the province itself. The garden has lovely and exotic Japanese maple trees, flowering cherries and delicate irises among tall fir and cedar trees. There is also a calm, reflective pool filled with carps of various colors. The Tea House located within was constructed in Japan and shipped to Canada for assembling. It follows strict design principal. With 8 windows, 88 stepping stones and 16 walls, the house correspond with the entire garden and is a must for all visitors. Pamphlets and information concerning the garden may be obtained from the front desk of the administration office. Ask for the Nitobe Garden booklet for detailed information.
