RCMP Release Further Assertions on Dziekanski's Airport Tasering

November 30, 2007
The famous Vancouver airport tasering incident which happened last month raised questions about the use of excessive force and taser guns. The incident was captured on videotape by a witness and broadcast on television as well as being circulated on the internet.

From the videotape it appeared that the RCMP did not get any medical attention for the victim Robert Dziekanski after tasering him at the airport. The RCMP today asserted that it's wrong to believe that the Mounties did not get any medical attention for the taser victim.

Corporal Dale Carr of the RCMP homicide team says that after the suspect was handcuffed his breathing and pulse were checked by RCMP officers and YVR security guards. "During what would be a regular on going assessment or Mr. Dziekanski's state, officers noted that he had become unconscious, thereby causing them to call emergency medical personnel."

Corporal Carr did not mention how long it took for police and security guards to notice that the suspect was unconscious. Carr noted that it took six and a half minutes for the fire fighters to arrive on the scene to provide medical attention. After two requsts from the medical response team police acquiesced to removing the handcuffs off Dziekanski.

The matter is still under current investigation.
