The following is a rough guide to various mountains located around Vancouver. If you are planning
on going on either one of these trails, it is advisable to drive a car as some buses will not
be able to take you there. As always, remember to bring along at least 1 1/2 litre of bottled
water, food, medical supplies and emergency blankets and flare. As there may be bears around,
be sure to bring along a bear spray which are sold in various outdoor sporting
good stores.
For information regarding bear awareness, visit Bear Aware BC or Safety Guide to Bears in the Wild.
Wear comfortable hiking boots and at least two pair of socks. Depending on what season you go in,
it is always a good idea to bring an extra jacket ('windbreaker'), gloves and adequate
rain gear. Going to the
top of mountains does not mean you won't get sunburn so take the sun lotion as a precaution.
Always let someone know where you have been as a safety precaution.
Vancouver is blessed with natural and beautiful wilderness so it is only fair that you should
respect nature and keep to the hiking trails. Ultimately, the responsibility of maintaining
our natural wonder rests with you.
TIP: Try to follow the trail markers along each trail. If you are lost,
try to backtrack to the last one and start again. If you are completely lost, do not panic
and decide whether to stay or return. A compass and a map will be most useful so do not try
to leave your hotel without them!
