At the water's edge in North Vancouver, is the color and bustle life of Lonsdale Quay Market. Richmond

The city of Richmond takes its shape from the Fraser River and is surrounded by the Fraser River's North and South Arms. The city is protected from flooding by man made high dikes which are ideal if you want to go for a short stroll or cycle a bike. It is a rapidly growing city with a large community of Asians.

Delta

Across the river from Steveston is the municipality of Delta and is known far and wide among bird loves as the home of George C. Reifel Bird Sanctuary. It provides a critical stopover point for migratory birds flying north or south along the Pacific flyway. You can take a stroll along the broadwalks and see over 350 species of migratory birds.

Tsawwassen

At the southern tip of the Delta lies the community of Tsawwassen and the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, where you can take a journey to Victoria and Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island.

Burnaby

Sandwiched between the Fraser River's North Arm and Burrard Inlet is the town of Burnaby which is Vancouver's next door neighbor. Once known as a sleepy suburb, it has become a busy place with the emergence of the huge Metrotown Shopping Centre. It now draws shoppers from every corner of the region and the Simon Fraser University atop the Burnaby Mountain attracts students from around the world. A more recent addition to Burnaby is the Crystal Mall which has a number of Chinese shops offering exotic wares from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Port Moody

Located just east of Burnaby is the city of Port Moody which is often described as a horseshoe shape around the far end of the Burrrad Inlet. The port was originally slated to become one of Canada's largest city on the Pacific Coast but the Canadian Pacific Railway decided to move its railway terminus 20km further down the inlet to Vancouver. The community of this quiet and snug city say it is probably the best thing that could have happened to them. Port Moody is now blessed with the peaceful sight of the Belcarra Regional Park and a number of beautiful lakes.

Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam

Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam from the Tri Cities area is a region that is coming into its own as a unique urban environment. New town centres like the Coquitlam Centre offer opportunities for shopping and dining as well as a chance to experience some fine artworks. Even though Coquitlam has become urbanized, it has a number of untouched parks for hikes and mountain bike riding. You can choose to hike up the marshes and rocky knolls of the Minnekhada Regional Park or take the Port Coquiltlam Trail.

New Westminster

Where the Fraser River's two branches meet lies the city of New Westminster. Chosen for its easily defended position on a hill overlooking a river, the 'royal city' has never forgotten that it was once a fine colonial capital when Vancouver was still a young city. When in the New West, try taking a cruise up the river and browse the shops at the Westminster Quay or walk along the shores of the Fraser River.

Surrey

Surrey is opposite New Westminster and is a city of such extent that it stretches from the Fraser River's south bank all the way to the ocean and the United State border. Surrey is a vibrant new 'edge city' and is considered as one of the fastest growing in Canada. Around Cloverdale is where you can find rodeo and reminiscent of the old cowboy days.
